Frequently asked questions: Botox
Chaitali Nangrani M.D is frequently asked questions about Botox. Here we answer some of them for you. Botox is an injectable that is loved by celebrities and introduced to the rest of us in the early 2000s. Botox is in most of our beauty toolboxes and if it’s not in yours yet, it SHOULD be!
What are the potential side effects?
It is important to note that anything medical has potential for side effects, the most common are small lumps at the injection site (that usually disappear within an hour or so) headache, and some minor bruising.
Droopy eyelids can also occur when Botox spreads to an unintended muscle, but this is rare in an experienced practitioner’s hands.
If I am very expressive, does my Botox wear off quicker?
There is no evidence that this is the case although our metabolisms do affect the way we respond to injectables, for example if you and a friend go and have the same amount of Botox you will both have different experiences. Consider the following factors, if you have had Botox before, if you exercise regularly or only had a small dose administered (baby Botox) then these do affect the way you react to injectables.
How do I avoid a frozen look?
You can go by how your practitioner looks. Ask them if they have had Botox before: that’s your reference. If your practitioner looks frozen and overdone then Botox is likely to have been over-administered. An experienced practitioner will be able to assess what you need pretty accurately.
Is “little and often” better?
Like most things, we have a tendency to build up a tolerance. We have many clients who do not wait for their Botox to completely wear off but come and see Dr. Nangrani for top-up appointments. There is no right or wrong approach. It’s what’s right for you!
Can I exercise after Botox?
While you should always follow your doctor’s recommendations, the general rule is to wait at least 4 hours to exercise. This includes bending over or lying down. However, 24 hours is the ideal amount of time to wait.
