Sculptra is an FDA-approved dermal filler originally developed to treat fat loss in the face. Sculptra’s poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) microparticles treat areas of collagen loss in the face and stimulate your body to reproduce the lost collagen. Sculptra can also correct volume loss in other parts of your body, like the buttocks and the backs of your hands. As a result, Sculptra helps restore your skin’s inner structure and volume.Collagen gives structure to your skin and supports elastin and hyaluronic acid (HA). Elastin, an elastic protein, maintains skin shape, while HA cushions and lubricates to keep the skin hydrated. Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually, helping to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds. As you may expect, more collagen enables you to have more elastin and HA.
The doctor places Sculptra into the deep dermis, and this non-invasive treatment produces long-lasting, natural-looking results. Treatment is typically a course of three treatments over several months. Gradually increasing your collagen, fills out your cheeks and erases smile lines, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles. After your initial injection, you may experience some mild swelling and bruising that will dissipate after a few days.
