Moles or Beauty Marks?
One of the most obvious skin features is a mole or skin growth. When the mole appears on your face and adds to your beauty, it is a beauty mark. But often, they show up and detract from your appearance. Worst of all, they may be precursors to skin cancer or other conditions. A mole (nevus) is a benign growth of the cells that give skin its color. Although very few become cancer, abnormal or atypical moles can develop into melanoma over time. “Normal” moles can appear flat or raised or may begin flat and become raised over time.
In the 1700s, both women and men wore mouches, velvet patches, to cover up smallpox scars. This “fashion accessory” carries on to this day as tattooed beauty marks and freckles. And scars can now be reduced greatly with dermal fillers.
