Microneedling Types of Devices
This procedure stimulates the skin with a special device containing tiny metal needles. Several different Microneedling types can be used, each with its pros and cons.
Dermaroller – These look like small paint rollers with round, rotating cylinders containing at least 200 tiny needles. It has a handle for easy rolling over your face. Because the needles move into the skin at a slight angle and sweep through the skin as they move out, the wounds they cause are slightly larger than the dermapen or dermastamp produce.
Dermapen – It looks exactly like a pen, with a circular head studded with tiny needles that are both motorized. The needles move in and out of the skin in a stamping motion and can pierce it with thousands of tiny punctures. The tiny wounds the CosmoPen produces are much smaller than those produced by a roller device. Because of the device’s format, it can be used in smaller areas that might be harder to reach with either of the other two styles.
Dermastamp – This looks similar to Dermapen but with a larger head and more needles in the device. It can either be motorized or manual. Instead of rolling it over the face, the needles are stamped into the skin, similar to how a tattoo machine works. A dermastamp can treat larger areas of skin more quickly than a dermapen.
