Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) The Woodlands

platelet rich plasma

Use your own PRP as a topical skin treatment

Platelet rich plasma uses platelets from your blood as a hair restoration treatment to restore hair growth, rejuvenate your skin, and repair scars and stretch marks. After drawing about two teaspoons of blood, Dr. Nangrani separates its platelets from the red and white blood cells. PRP uses your unique cells and your activated platelet growth factors to produce stem cells. A stem cell response tells your collagen-producing cells to make collagen, fatty tissue, and new blood vessels. The doctor applies PRP to your skin using microneedling.

Microneedling with platelet-rich plasma The Woodlands

The microneedling tool creates hundreds of tiny “micro-channels” in your skin. Micro-channels allow PRP to flow into the deeper layers of skin. The skin plumps and thickens as it heals, making new collagen and elastin layers. The healing response creates healthier skin and reduces the appearance of scars, fine lines, and other skin texture changes.

Microneedling PRP incurs no significant downtime. You may see some improvement immediately. More significant results will start occurring after two to three treatments spaced one to two weeks apart. Collagen production takes place over time, and skin will continue to improve over the next six to twelve months with the proper skincare regimen.

Microneedling is most useful for

  • Treating alopecia, or hair loss
  • Facial rejuvenation, restoring skin elasticity, production of new collagen
  • Treating stretch marks
  • Improving the appearance of acne scars and keloids
  • Reducing fine lines and deep expression lines

PRP can help slow down hair loss and sometimes reverse thinning follicles. Follicles were previously thought to be gone in areas of complete baldness. They are more likely dormant. Recent studies have shown that the scalp contains the stem cells from which the follicles arose. Once you stop PRP treatments, you may over time revert to your natural pattern of hair loss. Dr. Nangrani will advise you whether you require multiple treatments and what you may expect for results.

PRP facelift (some spas call it a “vampire facial”)

Refresh your face with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with this super facial! PRP treatment has been used for over two decades to speed up the healing of wounds and severe skin conditions. Combine PRP with dermal fillers for a fresher and more youthful appearance. Using a facial filler, the Doctor first restores the youthful contour of your face. At least four days after your filler or Botox injections, time your PRP microneedling so that any post-treatment bruising can settle. The effects of the procedure improve for 2 to 3 months and should last for at least one to two years!

Healing scars

Skin scars when the dermis is damaged. The dermis is the resilient middle layer that helps the skin retain its shape. A scar results naturally from the process of wound repair.

Scars are composed of the same protein, collagen, as the tissue that it replaces, but the fiber composition of the protein is different. Instead of the normal random basketweave formation of collagen fibers, in a scar, the collagen aligns in a single direction.

When skin stretches with rapid growth or weight changes, stretch mark scars may form, most likely in areas of larger amounts of fat. Stretch marks caused by tearing of the dermis may diminish over time, but will not disappear completely.

They are more extreme when coupled with an increase in cortisone levels, which weakens elastic fibers in the skin and reduces the skin’s pliability. This affects the dermis by preventing collagen and elastin fibers from forming. They are both necessary to keep rapidly-growing skin taut.

Microneedling alone will stimulate your skin’s natural ability to produce new collagen and elastin layers. Platelet-rich plasma targets scars with its growth factors, further encouraging the skin to plump and thicken, and minimizing the look of the stretch marks and scars. You should expect fewer allergic reactions because no foreign materials are introduced when PRP is used.
