DIY Beauty Treatments

Now more than ever, we have seen an influx of in-home beauty treatments. Trends like infrared light therapy, microneedling, and chemical peels are to name but a few! We all experienced periods during 2020 when we couldn’t leave our homes and DIY anti-aging treatments were our only option. But, what happened? Self-diagnosis reading magazines and watching YouTube lead to overworking and damaged skin. Not only do DIY beauty treatments damage your face and body by causing micro-tears, irritation, and discomfort, but they can also clog your pores and, create long-term costly drain blockage.

Seek a professional

At Vedas, we are a patient-centered practice, with master aesthetic practitioners who know their craft! When you treat the skin at home with microneedling and chemical peels the skin is exposed to bacteria if not prepped and sanitized adequately before the treatment. In-home treatments are a good idea until they’re not and can lead to breakouts, cross-contamination, and skin infections.

What happens to the skin after a medical-grade treatment like microneedling?

Phase 1: Hemostasis Phase
Hemostasis, the first phase of healing, begins at the onset of injury, and the objective is to stop the bleeding. In this phase, the body activates its emergency repair system.

Phase 2: Defensive/Inflammatory Phase
If Phase 1 is primarily about coagulation, the second phase, called the Defensive/Inflammatory Phase, focuses on destroying bacteria and removing debris—essentially preparing the wound bed for the growth of new tissue.

Phase 3: Proliferative Phase
Once the wound is cleaned out, the wound enters Phase 3, the Proliferative Phase, where the focus is to fill and cover the wound.

Phase 4: Maturation Phase
During the Maturation phase, the new tissue slowly gains strength and flexibility. Here, collagen fibers reorganize, the tissue remodels.
