Chemical Peeling Gives You a New Face!
From mild and shallow to strong and deep, all chemical peeling allows your skin to regenerate as it heals. The mildest peel formulas can treat fine wrinkles, areas of dryness, uneven pigmentation, and acne. They use naturally-occurring carboxylic acids known as alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). Facial wash, serums, and creams often contain AHAs as part of a skincare regime, and as a result, you may use them every day. Several usual fruit acids are citric acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, malic acid, and tartaric acid. Home peels may have these lower levels of hydroxy acids, and work only on the skin surface.
Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) include salicylic acid and work well for acne. They are anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. Because they are also oil-soluble, a BHA chemical peeling can control sebum excretion and acne.
A retinoic acid peel removes scars, wrinkles, and pigmentation problems. Typically, a Jessner peel is performed right before, so a retinoic acid peel can penetrate to a deeper level. You will leave us with the chemical peel solution on your face. Peeling will usually start on the third day.
A phenol-croton oil peel uses very caustic croton oil. in the 1920s, early Hollywood stars secretly used this intense exfoliating chemical peeling. Be sure to discuss your expectations with your aesthetician before deciding on this harsh peel.
Will it hurt?
We can do AHA and BHA chemical peeling here in our medical office. You will feel a slight stinging when the aesthetician applies the solution, but you won’t need an anesthetic. A medium peel may cause more discomfort, but even without an anesthetic, you will feel a warm sensation on your skin. A croton oil peel, because it is so deep, would be done under sedation.
Chemical Peeling Complications
As you may imagine, the deeper the peel, the more complications that can arise. Our professional-strength chemical peeling is done by our licensed aestheticians. Your skin may become sensitive to light, show pigmentary changes, or textural changes. You may see a yellowish tinge for several hours after a chemical peeling, as well as mild to moderate redness.
Results will vary, depending on how deep the solution acts on your skin. But as your skin heals, your new skin should be clean and smooth.
